Built in 1970, Tour de la Famenne was the centrepiece of the Famenne region, offering magnificent views over the Belgian countryside. At its peak, it expanded into a leisure park including a bowling centre, karting track and waterslide, while the tower had a rotating restaurant offering tremendous views during your meal. In the 1990s, the restaurant and leisure park closed down, and hasn’t operated since. In 2015, a Dutch business man has bought the site and is currently restoring the site to its original condition.
The explore
Planned as a quick stop on the way into Belgium, we did a quick look around the tower, bowling alley and waterpark. The tower was locked and under heavy security, while the bowling alley was barricaded after the local youths had trashed the place, leaving only the water slide left. Apparently built in the 1980s, now it is a very tired attraction with algae filled water and random bowling shoes littering the place.
